  • This is a really good analysis of mental health in movies and mental health in general. I have bipolar and anxiety. I didn’t know I had it till a few years ago although all of the symptoms were there. I just assumed everybody went through this. I have been through mental health wards and the schizophrenics can be really scary and they definitely do think that everybody is out to get them and start to act out, not all of them but generally if they are in there, there is a reason and it’s generally to do with medication. I’ve seen some shi go down. It also makes you realise that there is always someone worse than you.

  • I tend to feel like I can't breathe and hyperventilate when I have panic attacks and I've noticed that symptom has gotten worse with the pandemic. I love wearing masks, they usually are somewhat helpful to my anxiety except when I start having a panic attack. The mask sometimes increases the feeling of not being able to breathe and so I have to go outside and take my mask off. I literally ran out of church the other week during prayers because I couldn't breathe I just needed to get the mask off as quickly as possible.

  • My partner and I binge watched a Netflix TV series called Atypical, which tracks the adolescence of a high-functioning autistic fellow, along with his family's and acquaintances' struggles to cope while remaining true to themselves. It's beautifully done, showing the unique issues in a very relatable manner. Somehow, watching this series of analyses reminds me of that series, though its done in a very different way.

They’re not good people right? They’re born to not have feelings, so what’s the point of them living? Not trying to be rude!

  • So, I thought there was a differentiation between anxiety attacks and panic attacks. Anxiety attacks being induced and exacerbated by a stressful trigger; whereas panic attacks are more idiopathic in nature with no specific emotional/situational trigger. I used to have panic attacks - they happened out of nowhere at various times. Later, I found out they were being caused by hormonal contraceptives. SO thankful a friend just happened to have recently read about a correlation between contraceptive hormones and panic disorder.

  • For me this was both fascinating and hard to watch. I have some kind of mental health disorder but I've never really figured out what it is. His explanations of the different varieties helped me understand a bit better what the characteristics of some illnesses can be. I hope you all have a good day.

He didn't realize many of these were based on real people with various disorders and didn't pick up that Lars' mother died giving him birth which probably created a lot of his reactions and thinking about himself and his relation to others. What a waste of time and bogus analysis

Kim Peeks who this movie was based off was a savant and was amazing with numbers and memorization! I met him in person and they NEVER claimed he had autism, only savant syndrome. Someone with his experience shouldn't have made this awful mistake and GQ is stupid for publishing it
